a evening of halloween

last night was, rather obviously, halloween. holidays of any sort are a different experience away from family and friends and known traditions - such as scone parties - and i found halloween to be no exception. it was strange to celebrate the holiday sans trick-or-treaters, but i did get to talk to snow white and mulan (aka madeleine and elizabeth) on gmail video chat for a few minutes.

in an effort to be festive, tori and i decided to put in the effort and make an appearance at the joint law and med school halloween party. we missed the pre-game "liquor treating," but made it over to the law school with allison, johana and tope from my class. the best part of the night

was seeing everyone's costumes - my favorite was gordy. gordy is in my class, and he dressed up as our professor rita popat, a delightful indian woman who teaches us quantitative medicine (epidemiology). on friday, she had worn a "costume" to class that consisted of two pieces of paper taped to her front and back that had pictures of rotavirus on them (like the actual cells). anyway, gordy did the same thing for his costume on saturday! i also liked aria's costume - he was the swine flu (however, being in med school, i am not allowed to call it that. it is the 2009 novel h1n1 influenza virus fyi).

tori's costume was a gift from ann blanchard at the sill center - she was very 1920s-ish flapper. my costume was a little more vague - i wore a red suit and tori very kindly did my hair in a voluminous headband style. add some bright blue eyeshadow and red lipstick and voila! i had a costume that kept people guessing all night.tori and i were thinking sort of 1960s, but throughout the night i got guesses ranging from cindy mccain and a "first lady", to chelsea clinton or eleanor roosevelt, to executive barbie(several of the girls in my class dressed up as "multicultural barbies.") my favorite guess of the night: hillary clinton in the 90s.
