stanford flute ensemble

i've gotten some questions lately about being in the stanford flute ensemble. i joined the flute choir when i came to stanford since i wanted a way to keep up my flute (i know, i know, i can't give anything up). it has been a very different experience, mostly because i miss susan goodfellow and my flute friends, but also because this flute choir sits down to perform. for most people, this would be great. for someone who already sits 9 hours a day in class, this is not so great. i've actually started getting funny back pain at flute choir. the other problem is that it is from 7:15-9:15 on monday nights, so i am exhausted when rehearsal starts.

all that said, i'm really glad i'm in flute choir. it is fun to play my flute, and i've enjoyed meeting some new people (i.e. people not in the med school!) i wish i had a picture of them, but no photography is allowed at our concerts. here are their names and a brief description:

han: undergrad, junior IR major - she is always smiling and enthusiastic
beth: post-doc biology, she works near the med school so i see her often
kyle: rather flamboyant, has longish hair that he sweeps back from his eye a lot, 2nd year law student (we bond over professional school)
ginger: 50ish, professional flutist, very conscientious, always wears clogs or frye boots. sort of no nonsense.
sonia: elle est francaise, a grad student here in physics
christina: 5th year chemistry grad student, she loves guitar hero, is loud and cheerful about everything
alissa: alumna, i don't really know what she does now, but she is very polite and pulled together
tomiko: a professional flutist and flute teacher, young and is so nice about everything, is getting married soon!
daniel: i love sitting by him since we make a the same mistakes, he is quiet but friendly, undergrad, sophomore in atmosphere and energy (stanford undergrad majors are so strange btw)
betsy: works for facebook and is EXACTLY what you would expect of one of their employees
susan: grad student in applied physics, seems granola but wears 7 jeans, has a great sense of humor

that is the group! our next concert is june 1st (hint, hint)!
