the bachelor comes to stanford med

so...everyone knows that i do not watch tv and that i am hopeless when it comes to pop culture references. however, most people also know that i have been a (nearly) religious reader of people magazine since approximately the age of 10 years old (i vividly remember my first issue - jennifer lopez wore this dress). anyway, i have missed very few issues in that time and will vehemently counter that people magazine is NOT a gossip magazine. it is news.

imagine my surprise when i received a lunch talk invitation last week...given by none other than andy baldwin. who is he? WELL (for all you non-people readers), he is no other than the navy-doctor-turned-2007 bachelor. now, we receive a lot of lunch talk invitations at the med school, and so i am way over just attending for the free subway sandwich. this was one i could not pass up, and so i attended a talk about navy medicine by dr. andy baldwin.

he was (predictably) a little full of himself, told a few too many stories emphasizing his heroics in laos, talked a bit too much about the fact that he owns two houses at the age of 33 (in la jolla and oahu), and generally just tried to get us to join the navy. he is really the face of the navy, as i guarantee that NO ONE would go to hear him talk if he weren't superficially famous. he is definitely good at his job though - almost had me convinced at one point. is he charming? not really. good looking? of course.
