rosh hashanah

on friday, we decided to take advantage of our jewish exposure (ingrid went to preschool at the jcc and taking kickboxing there makes me a real expert) and of caitlin mcdonald being here to visit and celebrate rosh hashanah. they have class off at the law school which is not really fair, but apparently they have a much higher ratio of jews: students/faculty than we do. truth be told i always dreaded september/october when i was in salt lake since there were so many jewish holidays (inevitably screwing up my kickbox schedule), but now that i am away i could get used to celebrating them. jewish people certainly know how to eat.

ingrid making carrot-potato latkes (recipe here). side note: notice how you can creepily see her reflection in the microwave?

served with applesauce and plain yogurt.

a jewish feast!

oh, and we can't forget the challah bread! (notice my pumpkin butter - it is ubiquitous).
