last week we showed up to lecture at 9:00 a.m., as usual (or i showed up at 9:03 a.m., as usual). without any of the usual introduction (hi, thanks for coming to class so early, it was only 37.4 years ago that i was sitting in these exact seats, blah, blah, blah), we were treated to a movie. it is really rare in medical school that we get to watch anything that doesn't involve cells dividing or cells swimming around and eating other cells so this was a real treat. it even has WORDS and was produced by our government in 1938. i know it's long - just try the first few minutes to get the idea.
this professor ALSO ended class with a joke (i know, we couldn't believe our good fortune either).
while discussing idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (idiopathic=we have no idea of its cause) he said: "you guys have heard the joke about
'idiopathic,' haven't you? the doctor is an idiot and the patient is
pathetic." we laughed. way too much.
